Refugee Experiences of Hospitality in the US

Every year, thousands of refugees resettle in the United States. While the media often focuses on the numbers and policies surrounding this resettlement, it can lose the individual stories in the process. This website explores the unique experiences of several refugee families from the Middle East, centered around a few key questions:

What is life like for refugees once they resettle? Who or what organizations are assisting them? What are their biggest joys, surprises, and challenges as they adjust? Finally, what are their experiences of hospitality as they engage with their new communities in the United States?

"It is one thing to shout for the opening of your nation’s door; it is another thing entirely to open your home and your life to the deep challenges of difference."

Matthew Kaemingk, Christain Hospitality & Muslim Immigration in an Age of Fear, pp. 302
